TRANSPORT PRINCIPAL SECRETARY INSPECTS CONSTRUCTION OF SAFARI PARK BRT STATION

Transport Principal Secretary, Mr. Mohamed Daghar, today conducted a site visit to the ongoing construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station at Safari Park, Kasarani. This crucial infrastructure project is a cornerstone of the government’s plan to revolutionize public transport in the capital.

Led by NaMATA’s Director-General, Eng. Francis Gitau, Projects and Programmes Director Dr. Eng. John Githui, and Residential Engineer Kelvin Ndangili, provided the Principal Secretary a detailed briefing on the project’s progress and future plans.

A MAJOR TRANSPORT HUB

Upon completion, the BRT Safari Park station will serve as a vital transport hub, equipped with modern amenities such as park-and-ride facilities and a dispatch center. Designed with commuter comfort in mind, the station will significantly enhance the overall travel experience.

This station is an integral part of BRT Line 2 (Simba), which will extend from Ruiru to Kiserian, traversing key areas like Kasarani, the Central Business District, Kenyatta National Hospital, Bomas, and Rongai.

PROJECT PHASES AND TIMELINE

BRT Line 2 is being implemented in three phases:

  • Phase I: Covers a 24-kilometer stretch from Ruiru to Kasarani and the CBD.
  • Phase II: Extends 4 kilometers from the CBD to Kenyatta National Hospital.
  • Phase III: Encompasses a 20-kilometer route from Kenyatta National Hospital to Kiserian via Bomas and Rongai.

The construction is being executed by STECOL and SMEDI, renowned for their expertise in infrastructure development. The government is fully funding the first two phases, demonstrating its commitment to improving public transport.

TRANSFORMING URBAN MOBILITY

The BRT Safari Park station and the broader Line 2 project are poised to revolutionize transportation in Nairobi and its Metropolitan Area. By reducing traffic congestion and providing a reliable, efficient public transport option, this initiative will significantly enhance the quality of life for residents and boost economic activity.

As construction progresses, the government remains steadfast in its dedication to delivering this vital infrastructure project on time and within budget.
